In the studio : green warp

Started a new series of green drawings this week. Trying to feel out some marks and rhythms. This is just the begining with four drawings on my work table. I'm choosing a set vocabulary. But tomorrow I put them aside to begin work on drawings for my show with Brian Dennis in June.

Pop up studio : new warp drawings

It all began with a gift of pens just a couple weeks ago. I have avoided using these Micro pens for quite some time because I relate them with work not artwork. But when given a gift of several pens I couldn't say no. I've embarked on another small drawing series that can be made while traveling or waiting; having coffee or tea; sitting inside or outside.

It's all about the line — it's all about the color

I look forward to showing them off at Open Studio this year.

In the studio : laying down the ground

The bright white paper stared directly at me yesterday. I took my used blue tape and masked out an area to begin laying doen a background color. I reuse my blue tape, it gives me more organic line.

After sipping a cup a joe I began applying the ground. It took three passes to get a coverage. The two panels are ready to be drilled and bolted together. Then I'll start creating my graphite grid.

So pleased with the results so far. It's almost enough.

In the studio : spring green

Got the spring green on all my new surfaces.

This is a surprise color for me. Not a natural choice for mt but I'm working with it. Eight new pieces to start drawings. I have them all set up on one of my side work surfaces so I can work on small pieces in between working on my larger two commissions.

Looking forward to loading up some pens and laying down some marks this coming week. I'll be posting images or progess here in the journal.

in the studio : unexpected measurements

My most recent work in progress consists of acrylic ink on Yupo. I love the milky translucency of this synthetic paper. I love the way light glints off the ink. I have been working on a series of small measurement drawings over the past few weeks.

These are two of the drawings I recently made and happened to stack on top of the other. A happy surprise. I'm not really sure if I want to give in to this stacking possibility but I'm working wit the series to see if they could be the focus of my show in June.

Pop up studio : Set up.

I packed up my art gobag before the blizzard. It was essential that I be able to make drawings while the storm did its thing.

It was terrific to be sequestered with all my tools and sketchbooks and papers for days. Here are a couple pics of my unpacked bag spread out on the kitchen/dining table. It's days later and I still have the pop up studio working. It's wonderful to be able to make work at home too.

So now I am designing a small space that I can have drawing supplies here all the time and make my smallest drawings and books here.
