Today I worked on this card to determine hue for the ink in my most recent drawings. I use this often when I work with new pigments and materials. I keep the cards sometimes with annotations for reference.

I look at the marks now and again just for the joy of it.

Two new pieces drying.

Today in the studio I'm working on my two new orange pieces. It's good to be working on paper again. Working with two pieces that will converse with each other. It's already started.

Im very pleased with the tonal aspects ofboth panels. The solid orange is like velvet.

I returned to my studio after a full day to see the red and yellow drawings now that they were dry. I couldn't even make my coffee I had to look at them.

There is a profound difference when the ink dries — the result of the absorbtion. I'm pleasantly surprised. The marks are quite commanding with their little ripples and an occassional bubble. The transperency additive makes the brayer want to slide across the paper — the speed makes a different kind of visual texture and challenges my control to make the mark.

I find it difficult to throw things away that I have a feeling will be come art some day. On occasion that has created a bit of a storage problem. Recently I had to make the decision about putting a few design annuals on the street for give away or or carry the 30+ pounds up three flights to my studio.
