IN THE STUDIO : long and short series

What was on the wall wednesday.

I have begun making sets of panel drawings that can be paired in different ways. This is the start. We'll see just how many I make and how many of them feel successful enough to add to a multipanel presentation.

My process allows each to be independent and I'm open to that always being the case. But the joining of many pieces that have a common criteria but are not made to BE together will make for an interesting result.

Looking forward to continue the drawing and see what develops.

In the Studio : long efforts

Yesterday was the first full day in my studio in a while. Freezing cold temperatures and the job had kept me away. Still it didn't take long to choose a challenge for the day.

I have been working on two orange panels for several months. What I wanted to do with them has made itself known in waves of clarity and cloudiness. I began clearly enough with dense and tonal backgrounds of orange. I almost wanted to leave them in their first state. I wasn't brave enough. I would come to the conclusion later they weren't really finished.

square oranges

New work 12 x 12.

I've started making marks on the orange surfaces I've made in the past few weeks. This is the first larger one which is watercolor paper mounted on a cradle board. It was an effort to cover the area with my two stroke eliptical forms. Next I will fill the open spaces.

I've posted two images one from a normal distance, the other a detail.

Can't wait to get back into the studio to add the next layer.

In the Studio : New twins

Two new pieces drying.

Today in the studio I'm working on my two new orange pieces. It's good to be working on paper again. Working with two pieces that will converse with each other. It's already started.

Im very pleased with the tonal aspects ofboth panels. The solid orange is like velvet.

studio marathon : caught up in their heat

I've lost track of what day it is in the studio. I just know today is the last of the marathon.

I've gotten my groove back and I have three projects going on simultaneously. It's always good when I have several series in the works. One will take off and take over. But until then I explore the possibilities and one project feeds the other.

These are the drawings that have my attention right now.

I'm caught up in their rhythm and their heat.
