Studio Spin : a look around my studio May 2016

I've taken to doing some video spins around my studio lately. Basically to catch the state of my studio at different points of time and projects. Thay are for my memory as well as to share. I always find that first look at the condition of my space is something that leads me to new work, new details, new materials.

I just got back into the studio recently after a rather long interval. It's changing again and I hope to give you a peek in a couple weeks.

In the studio : Tilting the table

I'm working on a commission that is based on my soundings drawings. The new form factor of mounted paper on cradle boards required a different set up. For many drawings I may draw on the wall. For ink drawings I usually draw on a flat surface. I have to reach across a distance and an incline can usually help. Using dip pens or droppers means the positioning of the pen holds the ink in place.

new hardware : studio doors

Sat around with a cuppa joe working on ideas for organizing in the studio. My barn door needs some hardware and I've been working on some ideas to piece together plates and handles for a new better handle. These are some sketches for how to use flanges and plates. I'm measuring the door and doing more drawings. This is the start. I've also been doing some overhead storage. I'm expecting to be able to create a storage space for some framed work too. Right now just measuring and planing.

dream state

The studio is cleaned up and I'm back to work experimenting with two new series of drawings. This pic is after my coffee was brewed and I was taking a break after working for about 4 1/2 hours. I'm not exactly sure how I even took this weird little selfy.

In the studio : October 2011

I spent a long day in the studio Sunday.

I walked over from home; took a different route and enjoyed the cool weather. By the time I got up to my studio I was feeling a bit more tired than invigorated by the walk. I decided I didn't have the energy to make drawings on the wall.

I poured a tall glass of water and put on a half pot of coffee as usual.

You are invited, Open Studio October 15, 16.

Three out of four is not bad, new drawings.

I don't believe it's real. I have four days in my studio when I don't have to think about anything but making art. Today I went into the studio for the first day of my of my art retreat.

I have been working on these drawings for ages. They are 6 x 6  how much trouble could they be? Well, first they started out as pencil drawings. I laid down a grid and began working with a grid of directional lines, In some places you can see the intricate herringbone marks peeking through. The work hung on the wall for weeks. I couldn't see where it was going. I took it down and put it away.
