in the studio : january 2011

Finally a day and some night in the studio.

Deciding on work for the 3rd Street Gallery invitational and working on some new pieces. Began work on the winter twins. They are smaller mixed media pieces. Mostly graphite, charcoal, and white gouache.

Laying down a grid. Dividing to make two. Then drawing the divisions in very soft graphite. When all the grids have been drawn then the first layer of motion and surface change with white gouache made with felt or cut foam pen nibs.

The most difficult aspect in this process is waiting for the gouache to dry. Since I'm using synthetic paper it takes longer to dry because the moisture isn't absorbed it must evaporate.

After they have dried they will be mounted on the drawing wall and drawn on in a series.
